If horse owners start giving their animals a more healthy feeding, they will be very surprised with the superior performance and amazing potential the horses will show!
- Helen Kalle, researcher

History and purpose
In 1992-93 Svein Sortehaug made a long trip around the world to consult with European experts in herbal medicine and to experience African and Chinese ethnopharmacology.

The goal of that trip was to develop a new kind of feeding supplement for his own horses - a herd of hundreds of animals. None of the existing feeding supplements could satisfy his demands, so Mr. Sortehaug decided to create his own recipe.

After four years of research and development the first product, Basiblock, was brought to the market in 1996. BasiBlock licking blocks were very successful and generated a loyal customer base in Europe. BasiBlock’s healthful formulation also attracted breeders and horse owners in Arabian countries.

In 2005 a group of experts in nutrition and microbiology sciences joined the company. This accelerated the creation of new recipes and let the Company employ the latest scientific research.

In 2006 the company name changed to Scandinavian Animal Nutraceuticals (SAN) leaving BasiBlock as a brand name for licking blocks. The new name reflects the company's commitment to the exploration of natural biological ingredients.

A glance into the future

Our goal is to continue to find new ways to elevate the quality of feeding supplements for horses, and to create new and better products.

Unlike many companies, SN has no intention of going public. As a privately owned operation, we can continue to maintain our high quality standards. Like

Mr. Sortehaug says, "You can't create the kind of products we do with investors looking over your shoulder talking about profit margins and market shares."

In future SN will offer educational programmes. The market of horse feeding is overload with unsafe products. Knowledge is the only weapon to protect your animals from the danger of hazardous feeding.
